Field Trippin' : Tobacco Barn Asheville, NC

I am such a lucky girl living so close to Asheville, NC- lots of antiquing and funky shops right at my finger tips. Today's virtual  field trip will be at the Tobacco Barn.

Oh how I love this place. Plan on spending about 4 hours or more here- easily. It is truly an experience and takes time to navigate though the whole space. Get this- 77,000 square feet of decorating yummi-ness!

They have tons are art.  I love this very simple painting of a pear. I think could recreate this piece myself.

I found several small tables like these. They are actually wood. I love that they are made to look like aged tin.

Of course my heart melted when I saw this baby. I remembered Jenny has one just like it. You can read about it here

Did I mention how much I love mirrors? I have a storage unit full of them. I think that officially makes me a mirror hoarder. I'm not proud. I'm going to hang them all one day. Really, I am.

I still keep thinking about this sweet painting to add to my collection. It had a dent in the canvas so I was hesitant. I think you can fix that problem by ironing the canvas.

There were a pair of these Asian inspired  lamps I thought would look pretty in a master bedroom. Love those finials.

Hope you have enjoyed today's field trip! For more information about the Tobacco Barn visit here

Paint It Black

Today, I came across this post from  Jenny on my most favorite blog, Little Green Notebook. She always has her eye on new trends. I am always really inspired when I read her posts. As a matter of fact, I dropped everything I was doing, ran out into the garage and began digging to find my can of chalkboard paint.

The first of the  matte black  trend I noticed began with car finishes . Let me remind you that I have a teenage boy that brought this to my attention a while back. And no, I am not the least bit interested in this trend much to the dismay of my son.

Here is another example of matte black for nail polish

These letters with a worn zinc finish from Anthropologie are more of the trend that is arriving in interior design.

This shelf was a wedding gift and has remained unchanged for the past almost 16 years. I have always loved it- using it to stack small books on through out the years. Hmmm- would it look better black?

Here it is after a couple of coats of chalkboard paint. Unlike Jenny's paint, mine has a slight sheen to it. I still think it works and still gives that matte black look.

This was a fun and easy project to do. Black accents pieces are always perfect in small spaces like bathrooms. The shelf seems to work so perfectly on top of the "throne". Grab your chalkboard paint and get to work!!

XOXO,

I'm happy to be back after taking a brief break from blog land. I am happy to say that we are moved and very happy to be in our new house. I'm still a little overwhelmed with what to put where- this is the largest house we have lived in and there is lots to do. I am really enjoying decorating and promise to post house pics soon.

In the meantime, I've been thinking about what I might want for Mother's Day. I by no means need anything. I feel very blessed and fortunate to have a gig as a mom- that should really be enough. But, if for some reason someone like say, my husband chooses to purchase any of the above items for me I would not turn them down. I might even throw in a few extra loads of laundry.

They are just a few  random items I am coveting at the moment:

Now get out there out find your Mother's Day Wants- but better hurry! Mother's Day will be gone before you know it and you'll have to wait a whole year to feel special again!
